15 year old Rat infestation solved in Leicester City

Here are two reviews left on our Yell business page by one of our customers around a month apart, it is always good to receive reviews but these were worth sharing.

“From taking my call to putting things in place to 1. Try and eliminate present rodent problem 2. Put things in place for prevention. My problems started when we had our property extended some 15 years ago. Shoddy workmanship and cost cutting had led to council pest control coming out every few years. Graham has got more done in less than a week , then I’ve had from everyone else put together previously. Great bloke knows his stuff and wants to genuinely look after you. Thanks mate!”

“Complete Service. Graham you’re good for your word. You said after calling us you won’t ever need to call another pest control company. Within a month my 15 year ongoing problem’s gone. Thanks”

The story unfolds….

The Job came in much like any other, we were in the middle of lockdown and the customers usual choice of pest control contractor was not working. Faz found us on google and called us to see if we could help.

We arranged for a survey/inspection visit to be done to determine the best course of action once the pest had been identified.

The survey/inspection showed heavy, historic rat activity throughout the single storey extension roof void and also some lighter activity in the main loft.

After getting some brief history on what had been done previously, when the infestation had started, hot areas of activity and most importantly us getting to know Faz we carried on with the inspection.

What did we find?

Several areas of the single storey extension that required some attention were quickly identified, these were points of interest but not the smoking gun we were looking for. To have an infestation for this long and not be solved by the average pest controller would require a more direct access point and there was one staring up at us at the side of the extension.

The cover to the drainage inspection chamber at the side of the extension was lifted and at first glance nothing appeared to be defective, a few droppings were found but nothing obvious. That was until we got down into the chamber and found the cause of 15 years of rat infestation.

Poor workmanship by the builders

The builders had built the extension slightly over the chamber, instead of moving the chamber 12 inches over they bridged the external and internal walls of the extension with concrete lintels. This left the cavity open for rats to get in as much as they wanted, the smear marks left by the rats oily coats had left the entry point black.

Plan of action…

The decision was made to get some traps down in the roof void of the single storey extension and to ignore the loft for the moment, the rats  were clearly coming up from the drains and this area would be the first stop, while the trapping was going on we sealed up all the external defects to the extension. Holes were meshed and then pointed, pipes were filled around, timber facia and soffits were meshed off but the drain was left open until we had some control over the infestation.

Trapping went really well and we quickly got control over the numbers, regular checks and freshly baited traps cleared them in weeks, now was time to get the entry point sealed off permanently and stop anymore coming in. Two concrete lintels were cut down to the size of the manhole and these would form a sold block, brackets were then drilled and screwed into place and the lintels slid in to block off the cavity. Four inches of reinforced concrete now stand in the way of the rats. A few stragglers were left inside but these were picked off by the traps, all that needs to be done now is an environmental clean of the single storey roof void and that is another job complete.

Excellent Service. I have used them twice once in 2021 and again this week for a different area. They treated the wasp problem, were very prompt and said if still there in couple of days to call them and they would come again for free. I thought the price I paid was very good. Certainly recommend them.

Wanted to use a local company to help me with a pigeon problem. One pesky blighter had taken to perching on the gable end of my roof and was messing down the front face of my newly painted white frontage. I had tried a pulsing machine plus even tried a home made scarecrow but to no avail. I contacted one company who professed to be local. They were going to charge £120 just to come out and survey the work. That seemed ridiculous when I had researched exactly what was needed. I was eventually referred to GC who responded immediately. They asked me to send pictures of the house frontage so that they could quote. Within days I was booked in to have an anti-perch device fitted. Graham, the company owner was fantastic, the work was completed in a totally professional way and the pigeon problem is now eradicated. GC are definitely local and are Wigston based. Other companies who claim to be local are part of a national franchise - be careful they will rip you off. I highly recommend GC for any pigeon problems - they cannot be faulted.

Graham and the team were reliable, helpful and very knowledgeable. Squirrels were in a very difficult location to reach, and thankfully made their own way out! But Graham made sure the hole was fixed once we confirmed they had left. Would use again 100%.

Fantastic job! I was extremely pleased with Graham (Owner of GC Pest Control). He was professional, knowledgeable and came across as genuine. He puts the customer first and sets customers expectations well. We had a squirrel infestation issue and within 3 visits he managed to catch them all and block off the area which they were tunnelling through. I would definitely recommend Graham and GC Pest Control. 5 Stars
